MRI
clearly demonstrates the soft tissue structures in any
joint e.g. tendons, cartilage, bone, synovial fluid and
surrounding muscle.
Damage to any of these structures can be demonstrated.
Shoulders, wrists, hips, knees and ankles are often imaged using MRI.
Patients
for hip and shoulder scans will normally
be asked to lie fairly flat. Depending
on the scanner, knee patients may
be able to sit up slightly. Wrist
and elbow scan positions vary, some
patients may be asked to lie face
downwards or on their side.
Scan
times may vary depending upon
the individual case and the area
under investigation.
