In
most cases you will be sent an appointment letter
by post. We ask you to phone or email us
to confirm your appointment and at that time you
will be asked a few questions about your medical
history to ensure that it is safe for you to have
an MRI scan.
On
the day of your appointment you will need
to arrive 10 minutes beforehand.
You will be asked to fill out and sign a form. This is a very important
safety measure that ensures that there are no reasons
why you should not have an MRI scan. It is important to answer
these questions accurately no matter how urgently you need a scan.
You will be asked to remove any loose metal objects,
credit cards and watches. Loose ferromagnetic items are strongly
attracted to a magnet and may cause injury to personnel or damage
the scanner. Credit cards have a magnetic data strip that may be
erased. Watches, hearing aids and other electro-mechanical devices
may be permanently damaged by a strong magnetic field.
Most
patients will need to change into a gown. This
is mainly to ensure there are no metal items such
as zips buttons etc. that may impair scan quality.
Your belongings will be locked away safely.
The radiographer will take you into the scan room
and perform the scan.
After your scan you will be offered something to
drink and are free to go home.
