Information
for patients attending West Middlesex MRI
for a DEXA
(bone mineral density) scan
Bone
densitometry is a very simple examination which involves
lying on a special bed whilst the arm of the scanner
passes over you. The bone densitometer measures your
bone mineral density (BMD). It will compare your
measurements to a reference population based on your
age, weight, gender and ethnic background. This information
will be used by your doctor to determine your bone
status and fracture risk.
